Rhode Island Hernia Patch Injuries Attorneys
The Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch is a medical device used to repair ventral hernias, which can occur when scar tissue stretches or thins after a surgical procedure. One component of the patch is a "memory coil ring" that folds down in order to be inserted during surgery – and then springs open once in place.
Davol, Inc., the manufacturer of the Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch has issued a recall of certain patches, after discovering that the coil ring can break under the stress of insertion – leading to perforated bowels and other dangerous intestinal problems.
Any patient who has a hernia patch should seek immediate medical attention for any of the following symptoms:
- Unexplained or persistent abdominal pain
- Fever
- Tenderness at the implant site
If you have been implanted with one of the recalled patches, you should consult with your doctor to determine whether the device should be removed. Your medical provider may evaluate your patch by running one or more of the following tests:
- Lower plate X-Ray
- Barium fluid swallowed or as an enema
- Reverse Imaging CT scan
