Bristol County, Rhode Island, the second smallest county in New England, covers 25 square miles of land. Its boundaries include Bristol County, Massachusetts to the north, Mount Hope Bay to the east, and upper Narragansett Bay on the south and west, affording some of the best scenery and navigation facilities in New England. According to Census 2000, the population was 50,648, increasing slightly to 52,610 by a 2006 estimate. Bristol County contains 23 public and private schools and is home to the acclaimed Roger Williams University.

Bristol County’s seat is the town of Bristol, with Barrington and Warren comprising the rest of the county. Steeped in British and Colonial heritage and known for historic Bristol Harbor, the town hosts the oldest Fourth of July Celebration in America. Many delightful colonial inns and bed & breakfasts dot the landscape, intertwined with miles of ancient stone fences. The 14-mile East Bay Bike Path affords a gorgeous view to cyclists, joggers, and walkers.

Rhode Island divides its five counties into four Superior Court jurisdictions: Kent, Washington, Newport, and Providence/Bristol (with Providence/Bristol comprising one jurisdiction). Rhode Island's unified state court system, the Superior Court, has original jurisdiction in all of Bristol County’s felony proceedings, in civil suits where claims exceed $10,000, and in matters of equity.  The Superior Court also hears appeals on civil and criminal cases from Bristol County’s District Court. (Civil suits with claims from $5,000-$10,000 may be heard by the Superior Court or Bristol County District Court.) Any appeal from a decision rendered in Superior Court is taken directly to the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

If you have a personal injury case, a judge will hear your claim in civil court. This FAQ's section gives you information about civil lawsuits. If you are confused about the terms you hear while in court, you may find this list of common legal terms handy. Once you've gone through a trial, you may have the right to appeal your personal injury case to the Rhode Island Superior Court or the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

Bristol County’s most splendid attraction is the Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum. A waterfront estate, Blithewold boasts a 45-room mansion along with a gorgeous 33-acre garden. Other attractions include a Federal Period mansion called Linden Place, the Antique Center in Warren and the Herreshoff Marine Museum, where industrious workers built six triumphant America's Cup sailing vessels.

Rhode Islanders often call Colt State Park the ‘gem’ of the State Parks System. The entire western border captures beautiful views of Narragansett Bay. Four miles of bicycle trails pass along the Bay through 464 acres of fruit trees and lush lawns. The park boasts 10 sport fields along with 6 picnic groves containing over 400 picnic tables. Local festivals include Daffodil Days in April, the Coggeshall Farm Annual Harvest Fair in September, and the RI Wool and Fiber Festival in May.

Bristol County, Rhode Island is one of the most scenic regions in the state boasting lush natural beauty and proud Yankee heritage.
